Blood tests can be done at the surgery by referral from your doctor. The phlebotomist (blood taker) holds sessions for routine blood tests at the surgery Monday - Friday. Patients can also go to the blood test service at Riverside Clinic any time between 07:45 and 17:30 without an appointment to have their blood test if this is more convenient. Please ensure that you take the blood test request form completed by your doctor with you.
We normally expect the results of blood tests to be available one week after the test is taken. Occasionally some tests can take longer than this. We expect the vast majority of test results to be normal and in most cases no further action will be necessary. If your test results do require further action that your doctor or nurse has not already discussed with you, we will contact you within 7 working days of the receipt of the test result. In some cases this will mean asking you to make a further appointment.
In order to ensure that we can always contact you, it is VERY IMPORTANT that we hold your current address. Please inform us at the earliest opportunity of any change of address.
Your doctor may arrange for other types of investigation and send specimens to the hospital Pathology Laboratory. Again, most types of results should be available one week after the test is taken.
Your doctor may occasionally wish you to have an X-ray examination at the hospital. Some types of X-ray will require a special appointment and your doctor will let you know if this is the case. Most X-ray results will be available approximately 10 days after the procedure and again we will contact you within 7 working days following the receipt of the result if further action is required.
Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.
